17) Personal Leadership – Knowing When to Take The Helm

It’s important to trust your crew (the different parts of you) to do their job, but it’s also important to know when they’ve reached the limit of their skills. Hearing everyone’s views and experiences is essential, but it’s important to take over as the leader when the task in hand is beyond their personal capabilities. Know when to take the helm, make quick decisions, and overrule others when necessary.

Truthy has a way about her that can bring out some real gems of insight, awareness and connection, but she doesn’t usually see the bigger picture over and above her own thoughts. My intervention is timed to perfection, even though I didn’t know that at the time. I trusted my inner sense of when to step in and take charge. I love leaving Truthy & Giraffe to figure things out by themselves, but I’m the Captain and ultimately I am responsible for the overall outcome. Stepping up to take personal responsibility has been the biggest challenge and necessity of my life so far. Without it, I would have most likely slid into a life of ailing mental health and declining functionality. Truthy finally shows approval for my growing personal leadership skills, which is quite a compliment from the hard task master.

This series of videos follows me from a dark place, where fear and anger prevail and emotional collapse is just around the corner. At times, I’m locked in and ready to self-destruct. I want to face myself, to look deeply at the inner workings of my thinking and feelings.

With the help of the delightful Truthy & Giraffe, who are much better able to express myself than I am, I find ways to handle my inner world and even reach a point of befriending myself. If these videos can support others to grow their personal insight and see the value of inner work then my fear and shame of posting them publicly will be easier to bear.

  1. I agree it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to have leadership skills and know when to do and plan things effectively, I have seen companies like UK Ghost writers scaled by leadership skills.
