Have you ever had a conversation with someone who’s just not listening to you? Every time you speak they interrupt with something of theirs, and you feel like there’s no space for your thoughts, or even your existence? Perhaps internally you have a similar dominating voice that doesn’t make much space for other parts of you? How do you deal with it? Do you let the loudest voice rule, or do you take personal leadership and find ways to make space to hear yourself fully?
Giraffe is having a tough time finding space for her thoughts when Truthy is reacting to everything she says. She digs deep to keep asking for what she needs but the clashing continues. When I step in as Captain, it’s Giraffe’s turn to have a reaction and what follows is an incredible shift in Truthy. Suddenly she makes space for Giraffe to share her thoughts and feelings and the heavy atmosphere lifts.
This series of videos follows me from a dark place, where fear and anger prevail and emotional collapse is just around the corner. At times, I’m locked in and ready to self-destruct. I want to face myself, to look deeply at the inner workings of my thinking and feelings.
With the help of the delightful Truthy & Giraffe, who are much better able to express myself than I am, I find ways to handle my inner world and even reach a point of befriending myself. If these videos can support others to grow their personal insight and see the value of inner work then my fear and shame of posting them publicly will be easier to bear.
